Perfect for beginners or experienced users needing a refresher. We'll cover safety features and basic maintenance of the modern saw and learn kickback prevention techniques. Participants will be able to try on various PPE and learn ergonomic practices. Interested participants will learn to safely start up, throttle up, and turn off a saw. You may bring our own saw if you choose, there will be no cutting in this class.

Join Cornell Cooperative Extension for a morning of classroom learning, hands-on FAMACHA and 5 Point Check practice, and a pasture walk at Alfred State College's teaching farm to learn about putting IPM to work on pasture using evasive grazing techniques. An exam will be provided, and students passing the exam will receive program certification, including a FAMACHA Card.

This mobile workshop will teach you what you need to know to perform fecal egg counts and understand the results of fecal egg count reduction tests at home. While focused on testing sheep and goats, this event is applicable to all ruminants and camelids.

The 4-H and FFA Tractor & Machinery Certification Program will be offered at the Cuba-Rushford HS (5476 Rt. 305, Cuba, NY 14727) on June 19th, 26th and 27th from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.Youth must attend all 3 sessions plus pass written and driving test to receive certification.

This year, we will be visiting an organic dairy farm.

Join Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cortland County, CCE South Central Dairy and Field Crops Team, and NE NatGLC for a twilight pasture walk at Ironwood Grazing Co with Mike Quinlin!

Farmer Mike will highlight his efforts at custom grazing cow/calf pairs and utilizing the herds grazing effect to improve land.  You'll get to see mob grazing techniques to control knapweed and goldenrod, witness clipping versus grazing comparisons, see pasture residual and recovery rates, judge soil health & animal performance metrics and learn what tools (grazing chart, pasture infrastructure and resources) are being used on the farm.  Throw in some impromptu demos, manure quality vetting, personal experiences from guests and ice-cream, and you have a meeting not to be missed.

SWNYDLFC and Cornell IPM are hosting a grower meeting to discuss integrated pest management strategies for protecting corn and soybean seed in New York. 

Dr. Vipan Kumar, Cornell weed scientist, will lead the tour through the small plot treatments and discuss the impact of these integrated herbicide strategies, with multiple modes of action, from a resistance management standpoint.

Please join us for a morning of hands-on learning with expert insights from local farmers, industry representatives, and extension. We will have some demonstration plots in action along with discussion about how cover crops influence soils and demonstration showing impacts on farm resiliency. 

Join us for a discussion and hands-on training for internal parasite integrated pest management in sheep and goats. Certification is available to all students participating in the workshop.
