Herbicide-resistant weeds, emerging diseases, and a potential re-emergence of seedcorn maggot? We'll have lots to talk about in our first in person Corn Day since 2020.

10:30 - 11:20: Herbicide Resistance in New York, and Weed Management Options in Corn - Dr. Lynn Sosnoskie, Cornell University
Dr. Sosnoskie will provide an update on a statewide survey of herbicide-resistant weeds, including marestail, tall waterhemp, and palmer amaranth. She will then provide the latest integrated management strategies for these and other weeds in NY corn crops.
11:20 - 12:00: Corn Disease Update and Future Directions - Dr. Gary Bergstrom, Cornell University
Dr. Bergstrom will discuss the emergence of corn tar spot and bacterial leaf streak diseases in NY corn fields, and will explain how to identify and manage these and other corn pathogens.
12:00 - 1:30: Lunch break and Trade Show
1:30 - 2:10: Corn Nutrient Management and On-Farm Research Network - Kirsten Workman, PRO-DAIRY; Juan Carlos Ramos Tanchez, Cornell University
Ms. Workman will discuss soil health and nutrient management in corn crops, and Mr. Tanchez will discuss the Nutrient Management SPEAR Program's on-farm research network.
2:10 - 3:20: Corn Insect IPM, the NYS Insect Pest Monitoring Network, and a Discussion of Seed Treatment Options for Seedcorn Maggot - Ken Wise and Alejandro Calixto, New York State Integrated Pest Management & Dr. Katja Poveda, Dr. Jennifer Thaler, and Anna DiPaola, Cornell University
Mr. Wise will discuss the NY state corn insect pest monitoring program and will give an update on management strategies for problem pests such as western bean cutworm and true armyworm. This segment will conclude with an overview and discussion of our current research into seed treatment options for seedcorn maggot control.
